OUR STORY
Pūpūkea Lux began before there was a candle, a collection, or even a name for what it would become.
The roots of this work began through my own experiences with healing, remembrance, family, and the desire to live more intentionally.
When I moved to Pūpūkea on the North Shore of Oʻahu, I was entering a new season of my life. I was preparing to welcome identical twin daughters and beginning a new chapter of motherhood. Surrounded by the ocean, the land, and the quiet power of the North Shore, something deeper began taking shape.
I kept returning to the importance of family. Not only the family beside us, but the people who came before us, the memories we carry, and the relationships that continue to shape who we become.
That understanding became part of the foundation of Pūpūkea Lux.
FROM REMEMBRANCE TO RITUAL
Before creating Pūpūkea Lux, I had spent time exploring ancestral healing and the ways remembrance can connect us to our own stories.
Living in Pūpūkea deepened that awareness.
I began thinking about the objects we keep in our homes, the scents that instantly return us to another time, the traditions passed between generations, and the simple rituals that help us remember what matters.
A candle felt like a natural place for those ideas to live.
A flame can represent presence, prayer, remembrance, celebration, grief, hope, and beginning again. Scent can hold memory in a way words sometimes cannot.
I wanted to create something that brought those experiences together.
THE BEGINNING OF PŪPŪKEA LUX
Pūpūkea means white shell.
The name became a way of honoring the place where the vision came to life and the symbolism that continues throughout the brand.
What began with candles grew into a larger idea.
I did not want to create products that simply smelled beautiful. I wanted to create physical objects that could help us pause, set an intention, honor someone we love, create a moment of prayer or reflection, and return to ourselves.
That intention became the Signature ʻOhana Collection.
Mama. Papa. Tūtū. Keiki. Kūpuna. Aunty.
Each represents a relationship within ʻohana and carries its own scent, intention, and story.
FROM THE FLAME TO HALE
As Pūpūkea Lux grew, I realized the ritual did not have to end with the candle.
That realization became Hale by Pūpūkea Lux.
Hale means home.
It is the digital continuation of the physical ritual, a place for guided experiences, reflection, journaling, remembrance, and support through different seasons of life.
The candle gives you something physical to return to.
Hale gives the ritual somewhere to continue.
Together, they express what Pūpūkea Lux has been becoming from the beginning.
Something you can hold.
Something you can experience.
Something you can return to.
CREATED WITH MEANING
Today, every Pūpūkea Lux product is intentionally made and finished by human hands.
The details are not accidental.
The ocean inspired blue, the gold accents, the shell, the family names, the intentions, the guided experiences, and the rituals surrounding each piece all carry part of the story.
And as Pūpūkea Lux grows, I want to protect that.
Because this was never meant to become simply another candle company.
Pūpūkea Lux is a ritual house created around intention, connection, ʻohana, remembrance, and the belief that the things we bring into our lives can carry meaning.
